Reasons I don't use emacs

emacs, programming, ergonomics

Even though the idea of a lisp environment sounds amazing (and is amazing), I cannot personally use emacs for the following reasons.

  • actively damages the pinky side of my left hand (even with ctrl mapped to caps lock)
  • editing sucks; Vim is much more elegant in terms of pure editing due to normal mode movement and semantic commands (dte, ciw, etc.)
  • emacs’ advantages can still be made up for in Vim, often with little-known built-in functionality, and with plugins if needed
